Before you move on from the city center, visit the vast collection of sumptuous flora at the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens. The extensive, vibrant collection of orchids, exotic palms, and herb gardens here shouldn’t be missed.
In the afternoon you will be ready to move your accommodations outside the city and into the Knuckles Range, where the scenery will improve dramatically and your exploration of Sri Lanka’s spectacular waterfalls can really get started!
Day 04 Kandy
After an early breakfast, set out on foot and into the unspoilt wilderness of the Knuckles for a trek through the trees and into the hills to witness the breathtaking views you’ve been hearing about. This trek will take you to the first of your journey’s shimmering cascades – Hunnas Falls. Astonishingly, these beautiful falls were designed and created by the Hunnas Tourist Hotel and linked to an artificial lake. Their sheer beauty and majesty will make you forgive the fact that they are man-made.
Another short walk through the misty canopy of trees will take you to the rushing waters of the (all natural) Kosgama Falls where you can take some refreshment and have a rest. Hike on from here to the Kotaluganga River where you can have a swim in the fresh, clear, glistening waters and either head back to the Villa for lunch or trek until sunset – the choice is yours!
