01 Airport / Negombo
Drive Time – Approximately 20 Minutes
Arrive in Sri Lanka in the style you deserve, greeted by your chauffeur guide and transferred directly to Negombo where you can relax and unwind on one of the island’s world-class beaches. Start your journey at a luxurious setting in our cozy lagoon-side accommodations to bask in the sun, splash in the water, and let the water wash over your feet.
Stretch back in a hammock with a drink in your hand to shake off the jetlag and adjust to the new time zone. Watch the sunset over the Indian Ocean and marvel at its rich pinks and ambers while you wriggle your toes in the white sands of the beach and prepare yourself for the exciting days ahead
02 Negombo / Wilpattu
Drive Time – Approx. 2.5 hours
After a good night’s sleep and a leisurely breakfast, set out from your lagoon oasis and into the arid scrubland and dry forested wilds to explore Wilpattu, the island’s largest national park. Wilpattu means “land of the lakes”, and the park’s many natural watering holes make it a serene destination to view wildlife in its natural habitat.
03 Wilpattu
Venture out early in the morning on a jeep safari for your best chance of spotting aquatic birds, elephants and leopards. Spend your day taking pictures of wildlife as diverse as sloth bear, spotted deer, sambar, mongoose, crocodiles, Indian python, as well as many species of birds.
Return to your hotel and enjoy some leisure time. Take in an evening safari, if you wish, and return for dinner and relaxation.
04 Wilpattu / Sigiriya
Drive Time – Approx. 2.5 hours
Leave Wilpattu after breakfast to Sigiriya, check in to the hotel. In the evening enjoy a jeep safari at Minneriya
Return to the hotel, and spend the rest of your evening at leisure.
05 Sigiriya / Knuckles
Drive Time – Approx. 2 hours
After breakfast visit and climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress.
Return back to the hotel have after a short break, you will then drive to Knuckles.
With a camera full of pictures, set out to discover more of the islands natural beauty by heading south up the lush green mountains east of Kandy into the untamed Knuckles Range. The Knuckles offer incredible examples of biodiversity and boasts of some of the best hiking and trekking on the island.
Enjoy the rest of day at your leisure from your hilltop vantage point among the clouds while you rest and prepare for tomorrow’s trekking and awe-inspiring views.
06 Knuckles
Enjoy an early breakfast to get the most out the stunning day of hiking that follows. Venture through shimmering paddy fields, mountain streams and temperate forests as you make your way up the magnificent Manigalla Mountain. A village-made, traditional Sri Lankan lunch awaits you along the way.
When you’ve gotten your fill of mountain air and a day’s trekking, return to your accommodations and spend the evening relaxing amongst the clouds.
07 Knuckles / Haputale
Drive Time – Approx. 4.5 hours
After a leisurely breakfast, today you will travel further south into the verdant green hills of Sri Lanka’s most beautiful and magic region – the Hill Country – proceeding to the quiet town of Hatton.
With its cool air, magnificent waterfalls, and thriving tea culture, the enchanting allure of the Hill Country has to be seen to believe. It’s a highlight of any trip to Sri Lanka. You will take winding roads through the gorgeously lush plantations past tea bushes trimmed by regular picking that look like green sculptures stretching up and down the misty hills as far as the eye can see. Enjoy this drive – this is the complete experience.
Spend the rest of the day at your leisure with a cup of tea in your hand, enjoying your surroundings and the pleasant change in temperature.
08 Haputale
Today you can truly soak up the beauty of this magical place or simply rest and relax.
Walk through the unbelievably beautiful tea plantations, or stop by a tea factory to sample some of Ceylon’s finest. These hills are another beautiful destination to view on foot – or simply relax in your luxurious bungalow accommodations.
09 Haputale / Yala
Drive Time – Approx. 5.5 hours
After a couple civilized days in the tea country, you may be ready to explore the island’s wild again. Today you will descend the hills and head south to the dry-zone and into Sri Lanka’s most gratifying wildlife reserve, Yala National Park.
After your scenic journey to Yala rest and enjoy your surroundings from your accommodations within the park.
10 Yala
Rise early morning for a safari in the Yala National Park. This is your chance to experience Sri Lanka’s wildlife at its best.
After experiencing the wild, return to your accommodation and relax.
11 Yala / Sinharaja
Drive Time – Approx. 3.5 hours
Because sunrise is the best time to view Yala National Park’s wild residents, rise early and set out with a packed breakfast for a morning safari. This is your best chance to see leopards and is the golden hour for bird watchers to catch their prey in the highest numbers.
Having sharpened your animal spotting skills the past 10 days, you will now be an experienced safari tracker. When you’re finished with Yala, head east to test your new skills deep in the undisturbed jungle of Sri Lanka. Nothing can prepare you for the shrouded beauty of the mist-filled canopies of endless trees that make up the rainforest of Sinharaja.
Once you’ve arrived at your lodgings in Sinharaja, check-in and enjoy some down time. Explore your surroundings, go on a nature walk, or spend the rest of your evening at leisure.
12 Sinharaja
Depart early morning for a jungle trek through the rain forest. As there are no drive-able roads through the park, Sinharaja is an exhilarating, hands-on experience. Skilled guides and naturalists will lead you through the dense, glistening trails of ferns, tree frogs and native orchids while pointing out the rainforest’s treasures of over 800 species of endemic flora and fauna. Many of the exotic plants and animals in this exclusive ecosystem aren’t found anywhere else in the world! This is the way to experience the rainforests of the tropics.
Return to your lodgings, marvel at the pictures you’ve taken, and spend the rest of your evening at leisure.
13 Sinharaja / Galle
Drive Time – Approx. 03 hours
After enjoying an early breakfast, with a camera full of wildlife photos, today you will head out of the jungle and into the charming town of Galle, one of Sri Lanka’s most alluring sea-side retreats.
Arrive at your hotel, check-in and spend some time at leisure. Galle Fort is a wonderful place to wander, soak up its rich history, and do some shopping while the area also boasts some fantastic beaches and opportunities for surfing or other water sports.
14 Galle
If you haven’t gotten your fill of wildlife, today you can go on a whale-watching excursion or trek through the Kinneliya Forest. Galle’s southern location is positioned closely to the continental shelf, just south of the island, which makes it one of the best places in the world to view blue whales where they ascend from the deep and breach the surface to feed on krill. Blues whales, the biggest of earth’s mammals, along with sperm whales, orcas, spinner whales, and dolphins are among the species that can be viewed daily from the shimmering blue waters just off the coast.
Or you may choose to spend your last day pampering yourself on one of the area’s glorious white sand beaches. Whether you want to catch a wave and surf, soak up the sun with your toes in the sand, or just meander through the coconut groves and collect seashells in the tide pools, the beaches around Galle offer countless ways to enjoy these last hours in Sri Lanka. After a busy week of traveling, you’ll enjoy the slow pace of this fort town as you reflect on your time in Ceylon and watch your last glorious sunset over the Indian Ocean.
15 Galle / Airport
Drive Time – Approximately 2.5 hours
Though it will be difficult to say goodbye, all good things come to an end. Your representative from Visit in lanka travel will meet you on time at the hotel lobby to return you by way of a scenic drive to the international airport for your departing flight and a safe journey home.
